Hey Everyone! I cannot believe that it is September already! This year has seriously just flown by, and I’m honestly not mad at it. The quicker sweater weather comes the better in my book! And good thing because today I have a fall pattern to share with you all. The Autumn Cluster Messy Bun Beanie is a staple piece to have at any craft show. Every single time I bring these messy bun beanies to markets I always sell out of them. They are so cute and simple and literally go with everything. The pattern for this beanie is just as simple, with the body of the beanie consisting of mostly repeats. This is the perfect pattern to get lost in, especially when you’re making a billion of them for fall and winter markets. I hope you all love this pattern as much as I do. Happy Crocheting! Interested in the pattern and want to save it for later? You’re welcome to save it by using my Pinterest pin by clicking here or the image below! You can purchase an inexpensive Printable PDF on Etsy here! The PDF includes the complete step-by-step pattern so you can follow along on paper, highlighting and making notes as needed. It is a total of 7 pages including the front and back cover pages. Materials *5.5 mm Crochet Hook 80 – 100 yards of any Weight 4 Worsted Weight Yarn *Hair Tie *Stitch Marker *Yarn Needle *Scissors Yarn Choice For most of my messy bun beanie and regular beanie patterns I prefer to use a softer and a little bit of a thicker worsted weight yarn. I like it gives so much more definition to the stitches and the details don’t get lost in the project. The brands I tend to gravitate the most toward are Lion Brand Wool Ease, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice and Loops \u0026 Threads Impeccable. It really just depends on availability as well as the colors offered in that particular line. If you would like to use the yarn I used in this pattern click here! Stitch Key (US Terms) Ch = Chain St/sts = Stitch(es) Sl st = Slip Stitch Sc = Single Crochet Hdc = Half Double Crochet Dc = Double Crochet ** = Repeat Special Notes -This pattern is worked from the top down. -The body of the beanie is worked in joined rounds. -The band of the beanie is worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark your rounds. -The 1st st should be placed in the same stitch as the ch’s. -The ch 1 and ch 2 do not count as the 1st st unless specifies other wise. -Stitch counts are indicated at the end of the row in pare
ntheses. -If you would like a wider band, add 1 to 2 more continuous rows. -If the beanie does not fit to your preference feel free to move up or down a hook size as needed. Finished Dimensions: 20 inches around x 7 inches tall. Gauge: 14 hdc sts x 12 rows = 4 inch square. Pattern Round 1: Begin by tying a knot on the hair tie using your yarn of choice. Reach underneath the hair tie with your crochet hook; pull up a loop and ch 1. Place 36 sc around the hair tie. Sl st to the 1st sc of the round to join. Ch 1 (36) Round 2: Ch 1. hdc into the same st as ch 1 and in each st around. Sl st to the 1st hdc of the round to join. (36) Round 3: Ch 1. 2 hdc into the same st as ch 1, *hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc into the next st* repeat until the end of the round. Sl st to the 1st hdc to join. Ch 1. (45) Round 4: Ch 1. 2 hdc into the same st as ch 1, *hdc into the next 4 sts, 2 hdc into the next stitch* repeat until the end of the round. Sl st to the 1st hdc to join. (63) Round 7: Ch 2. 2 dc into the 1st st (not the same st as we were doing for Round 2-6), *skip 2 sts, 3 dc into the next st* repeat until the end of the round. Sl st to the top of the ch 2 to join. (21 dc clusters) Round 8: Ch 2. 3 dc into the 1st space between the dc clusters, *skip next set of dc clusters; 3 dc into the next space between the dc cluster]* repeat around. When you reach the last space between the 1st and last dc clusters, place 2 dc into that space. Sl st to the top of ch 2 to join. (21 dc clusters) Round 9: Ch 2. 2 dc into the 1st space between the 1st and last set of dc clusters, *skip the next set of dc clusters, place 3 dc into the next space between the dc clusters* repeat until the end of the round. Sl st to the top of the ch 2 to join. (21 dc clusters) Round 10: Repeat Round 8 Round 11: Repeat Round 9 Round 12: Repeat Round 8 Round 13: Repeat Round 9 Round 14: Repeat Round 8 Note: The next 4 rounds will be worked in continuous rounds that will not be joined. A stitch marker would be super helpful during these next rounds. Round 15: Ch 1. In the back loops only, sc in the same st as the ch 1 and in each st around. (63) Do not join! Round 16: In back loops only, place 1 sc in each stitch around. (63) Do not join! Round 17- 18: Repeat round 16. At the end of Round 18, skip the last st and sl st into the 1 st stitch of the round. Fasten off and weave in your ends. ENJOY! For more beanie patterns click here!

It’s a free messy bun hat pattern for beginners. But basic doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Add stripes or use ombre yarn for a completely different look.

The Messy Bun Beanie! This style of hat allows you to have your hair up in a pony tail or bun and not have it look funny under the hat. The awesome thing…
