Azalea alpine beanie Hey, crochet lovers! Thanks for checking out my Azalea alpine beanie crochet pattern and tutorial! I’m back after a mini break for the holidays 🙂 I had a beautiful time with my babies and ate far too much chocolate!! It is always over too soon! I still feel the urge to put a Christmas movie on! I’m hoping I am not alone in this 🙂 I was checking out some winter accessories for this little trip, as you do – before you have even booked it (Eye roll) when I found some gorgeous pictures of the Alpines. It struck me that this was exactly what I needed to add to my next project and make our own accessories to hit the slopes in! I love new stitches!! The Alpine stitch is a lovely stitch that gives a beautifully defined finish to your projects. Its appearance is reminiscent of a valley of Alpine trees and it adds a bouncy, knit like feel to your projects! It’s a really simple to learn, It is a variation of the Dc double crochet and front post double crochet repeated over again. Just to help you out I have made a little written tutorial for you here Alpine stitch – Crochet tutorial If you would prefer to watch a quick video tutorial of the stitch then I have prepared one for you below 🙂 Now that you have learnt your new stitch. I’m sure you are itching to try it out. I made the pattern with 2 designs. The blue beanie has a nice chunky ribbed brim while the yellow beanie has a more neat, knit-like appearance. I am going to share with you the design for the blue beanie in toddler size. If you would like a full pdf pattern in both styles in sizes toddler – Adult you can find one here – Azalea Alpine beanie pdf pattern The pdf comes with photo stitch tutorials. I am always here to help, if you have any questions please contact me here through my page 🙂 Lets get hooked! Materials: 5mm crochet hook Aran weight yarn (yarn to match 5mm hook) in two colours Toddler – 70 yards of each Junior – 85 yards of each Teen – 95 yards of each Adult 110 yards of each Pom pom maker/ faux fur pom pom Yarn needle 14 stitches and 19 rows on 10 cm x 10 cm (4′ x 4′) The yarn I have used is a really affordable ‘saver superwash’ acrylic that is so soft and comfy. It works up great and the colour options are bountiful 🙂 You can find your perfect combo here Stitches: Sc – single crochet Dc – Double crochet Fpdc – Front post double crochet Bpdc – Back post double crochet Notes: Chain 1 and chain 2, will always count as the first stitch in a row. Always end with a double crochet in the end of Alpine stitch rows and not a post! Pattern – Toddler Chain 50, Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and all across, chain 2 turn (ch2 Counts as first stitch throughout pattern) Row 2: Dc in second stitch and all across, chain 2 turn, Row 3 – 5 Fpdc in second stitch, Bpdc in next stitch, repeat until the end, chain 1, turn Row 6 1 single crochet in each stitch, chain 2 turn Row 7 Double crochet in each stitch, Chain 1 turn Row 8 Single crochet in each stitch, chain 2 turn Row *1 front post double crochet in second stitch, 1 double crochet in next stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the row. Chain 1 and turn Note: always end the row in a regular double crochet not a post double crochet Row 10 *1 double crochet in second stitch, 1 front post double crochet in the next one. Make sure that where you have a double crochet on the previous row, you will make a front double crochet and where you have a front post double crochet you will make a double crochet. Repeat from * to the end of the row. Repeat rows 9 Toddler – 6 more times Chain 1 and turn Row 16 Sc around, change to colour 2! Repeat
rows 9 and 10 Toddler – 8 more times Finish off your row, secure yarn and weave in ends. Now fold your piece right sides together and sew up the sides. Turn right side out and weave your yarn in and out the stitches at the top of your beanie, pull on yarn and draw hat together, Secure with a few more stitches and weave in ends. Make yourself a large pompom or attach your faux fur pompom There you have it! A stylish new accessory to hit the slopes in…Or just wear day-to-day, either way you will love your new pro’ style beanie! Think of all the colour combos you can try out! This is definitely a stash buster pattern, we all love those! Don’t forget you can download a full pdf version of both style beanies in sizes toddler – adult here Azalea alpine beanie – pdf Please share your makes on facebook – peanutandplum and Instagram #peanutandplum Happy crocheting!
